 2026

Each year the foundation receives requests for help from various causes.  These are emailed to the project team throughout the year. The foundation team reduce these requests down to 3 options for donors to vote on, based on the funds available, and the potential impact each project shows.

In previous years only the project with the most votes received funding, however this year we are thrilled to announce that we had two winners. Since we did not award funding in 2025, the Foundation decided to support both of this year's top-voted projects. Each received £10,000, successfully restoring our funding timeline.

ALL THE DETAILS for each project option can be found in the 'Donor Voting' pack below.

100 Mile Classroom Project Overview:

Britain is one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world, with one in six species at risk of national extinction. Over half of UK secondary schools offer no outdoor learning at all, young people are spending far less time outside than previous generations, and fewer than one in three can explain what a "green job" is.

The 100 Mile Classroom led by the Knepp Wildland Foundation as part of Weald to Waves, is reimagining how young people connect with and learn from inspiring local nature restoration work. 100 miles of connected land, rivers and coastline across Sussex - are used as a living, outdoor classroom for young people aged 11-18. Rather than learning about ecological decline in abstraction, students encounter nature recovery as it happens around them, witnessing landscapes being repaired: scrub returning, rivers restored, hedges replanted. Learning is led and supported by trained Young Guides - young people who bring the landscape to life as relatable role models rather than distant experts.

Your £10,000 turns 3,000 young lives outward, toward rivers, woodland and coastline they might otherwise never have set foot in. Each school will be paired with a real, accessible site along the Weald to Waves corridor. These are students with the least access to nature and the most to gain from it - and thanks to you, every barrier of cost, logistics and opportunity that once stood in their way is gone. You're not just funding a school trip; you're planting the belief, in 3,000 young minds, that nature's recovery is something they can be part of - a legacy that will outlast the visit itself, rippling into the choices, careers, and communities of an entire generation.

Girls United Project Overview

In Namuwongo, a girl's childhood can end the moment she is forced to leave school. Without the safety of a classroom, her life becomes a daily struggle for survival against exploitation, forced marriage, and early pregnancy - one in four Ugandan girls becomes pregnant before age 18, and adolescent girls account for two-thirds of all new HIV infections. Lack of healthcare knowledge, child marriage, exploitation and gender-based violence trap many girls in a cycle of early motherhood, poverty and isolation.

Girls United was created to change that reality and give these girls their childhood back. Through the transformative power of sport, girls build resilience, teamwork, and essential life skills. At weekly sessions they come together to play football, share a nutritious meal, and learn about their rights in a safe and supportive environment - building the confidence and knowledge to make informed decisions about their bodies, their education, and their futures.

Because of you, 65 girls will be held inside this programme for an entire year - not just for a session, not just for a term, but for twelve full months of football, food, mentoring, and belonging. Every week, professional coaches and trained youth workers will run this same trusted rhythm: football, a shared hot meal, then life-skills workshops and one-to-one mentoring, so the support is consistent, structured, and always there. Your £10,000 doesn't just fund an activity, it funds a childhood: the chance to be a kid, to be safe, to be seen, and to grow up with the knowledge and confidence to choose her own future rather than have it chosen for her.
